“Make Me A Channel of Your Peace” by Susan Boyle

“Ordinary World” by Duran Duran

Wendy has worked at Mary, Queen of Angels for nine years and loves helping the residents every day. She finds that most people seem ordinary until you learn more about their lives. The residents at MQA have fascinating backgrounds, including doctors, teachers, executives, and travelers. Some are professional dancers, actors, multilingual and survivors. Wendy believes there’s nothing ordinary about the residents at MQA!

Why does this song give you courage?

Its beautiful melody helps me clear my mind and feel uplifted, even though it can be a bit sad. The lyrics, especially “I won’t cry for yesterday,” is one of my favorite lines. It reminds me to focus on thriving and being in the present. When the song was released in 1992, my husband and I were raising our three kids, so it brings back memories of that time.

What did you learn about Irene?

Irene is a deeply spiritual woman with a servant’s heart. She genuinely strives to right the wrongs in the world and her age hasn’t deterred her. She is a true champion, and I would want her on my team any day.

Irene is the oldest child in a family of 10 children.  Irene’s work in Nashville included teaching 4 years at Vol State Community College and a career of 22 years with the Catholic Diocese of Nashville.  She had other roles as well, but every involvement included a common thread of social causes and guiding people to better themselves.  Irene continues her work through volunteer groups that positively impact communities

Why does this song give you courage?

Make Me A Channel of Your Peace is a prayer that has been set to music. I love it so much. The origin of my name is a Greek goddess; Irene means peace.

What did you learn about Wendy?

I learned that neither Wendy nor I can dance. But we had a lot of fun trying. It was a special day to have with a special friend.
