Why does this song give you courage?

This song reminds me of my mother, who exemplified commitment, self-sacrifice, and courage. My mother was my hero, and the caregivers I meet are heroes, often working in the shadows while the focus is on the person with the diagnosis. Their strength and courage, as they face daily challenges, inspire me deeply. This song serves as a message of gratitude from those they care for. In honor of my mom and all the incredible caregivers, thank you for being the wind beneath our wings.

What did you learn about Paulette?

Paulette became a caregiver unexpectedly when her brother, who was caring for their aunt, passed away suddenly. Living in Tennessee, she initially tried to manage her aunt's care from a distance but found it too challenging. During COVID restrictions, Paulette traveled to Minnesota to move her aunt to Tennessee so she could oversee her care personally. Her story exemplifies dedication and resilience as she navigated numerous obstacles to support her loved one in a time of need.

Paulette, a speech-language pathologist with over 30 years of experience, cared for her aunt with Alzheimer's Disease starting in 2020. Even after her aunt's passing in 2023, Paulette continues to support other caregivers weekly through a support group.

Why does this song give you courage?

This song spoke to my need to trust in God when I felt overwhelmed, full of self-doubt, and inadequate as Marian’s caregiver. During this uncharted journey, I often cried out to God for help. Faith and God’s love carried me through, even when I couldn't love myself, providing support through my Monday night Alzheimer’s Tennessee Caregivers Support Group and Cheryl. This group became my new family, helping me overcome feelings of isolation and teaching me humility, gratitude, and the importance of believing in myself and recognizing our mutual purpose.

What did you learn about Cheryl?

Cheryl's early passion for becoming a family therapist led her to her current profession. A life-changing experience with a client who was the sole caregiver for her husband with Alzheimer’s inspired Cheryl to write a family support program to address caregivers' needs. I believe Cheryl was called to her vocation and is exactly where she is supposed to be for all of us caregivers.
