“You'll Never Walk Alone” by Roy Orbison & “Hero” by Mariah Carey

Emily Post is a Tech (CNA) at Woodcrest of Blakeford, known for her loving care. She began by caring for her grandmother and later became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Her career goal is to return to school for her LRN degree and work in Long-Term Care. She deeply loves her work and the people and families she interacts with at Woodcrest of Blakeford, finding her role very meaningful.
Why does your WOS give you courage
"Hero" by Mariah Carey resonates with me deeply. I cared for my grandmother during her battle with Alzheimer's, and it became a calling I cherished and wanted to continue in my life. She was my hero and because of her, I want to continue this work of helping others like her. I can honor her this way.
How do you know the other participants?
The bond I have with my residents is very meaningful and I want them to feel like this is their home. It was easy to care for Mr. Taylor along with his wife as we had the same care and goal for him. They treated me like family, and it was a joy to care for him.
Is there anything else about either participant or the experience you would like to share?
We’ve known each other for three years and love to laugh together. We often talk about Larry (BJ’s husband) and the funny things he would do or say, as well as Emily’s kids. We are comfortable together and it is a gift to have that with others.

BJ is an independent living resident at The Blakeford. While her husband was in our skilled care unit, Emily cared for him until his passing; they were married for 60 years. BJ loves classical music, old Broadway plays, and 50s malt shop music. She also spent many years as a schoolteacher.
Why does your WOS give you courage?
"You'll Never Walk Alone" has always been special to me. I thought of these words often as Emily was walking with Larry and me as we navigated the journey of his stroke.
How do you know the other participant?
Emily was a caring and wonderful caregiver to my Larry. I think it was because of her, and others like her, that he felt like he was home at Blakeford. She cared for him with such love and compassion which made him fell comfortable and content. She was so good and so sweet.
