“This Little Light of Mine”

"I Shall Not Be Moved" (Ella Fitzgerald)

Valerie was born and raised in Lebanon, TN. She has two daughters and ran a Head Start program before transitioning to nursing. With 27 years of experience in nursing and extensive work in developmental disabilities, she has loved music from an early age, having grown up in church. She has been with Mary, Queen of Angels for 5 years, calling it her best job ever.

Why does this song give you courage?

"This Little Light of Mine" was one of the first hymns I learned growing up in church, and singing has ALWAYS played a huge role in my life. It remains my favorite to this day. It was a song my grandmother used to sing all the time. Especially after disciplining us as children.

What did you learn about Lucille during your conversation?

We’ve both experienced love and loss at various stages of life, and we agree that our faith has prevailed through everything we've endured. Our shared love for Christ is evident in the Gospel music we listen to and sing.

Lucille  has been a resident at Mary, Queen of Angels for 2 years. Originally from North Nashville, she raised three sons and now has seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Active in her church, Lucille leads a Bible study at Mary, Queen of Angels and has a heart of gold, often visiting the sick.

Why does this song give you courage?

I learned this hymn as a child, and it helped me get through a night when my mother suddenly became ill. After that event, I devoted my life to Jesus, and the hymn will always hold a special place in my heart. I started singing it by my mother's bedside, making it a particularly meaningful song for me. This song continues to help me remain committed to Him and my faith in Him.

What did you learn about Cheryl?

We both grew up in church and we both chose a hymn as our Walk on Song. We are both very spiritual and we pray over each other. Even though she lives, and I work in different parts of our building, we always look forward to seeing each other and getting our hugs. I’m very thankful to have her as a friend and prayer warrior.
